How to Build an AI-Powered Writing System That Sounds Like You
The future of work is shifting.
Not next year. Not five years from now.
Now.
AI isn’t just tweaking the landscape—it’s transforming it. Roles are disappearing, being redefined, or morphing into something entirely new.
Studies predict that 60% of jobs as we know them will look radically different within a decade. If you’re building a career or business, this is your wake-up call. You can let the wave hit you, or you can learn to surf it.
If you’re not paying attention to AI, you’re already behind.
Trust me—I’ve been in this space for over a decade, and I’m still catching up. The value structure of society is shifting faster than most people realize. Just last week, I wrote about how a $20 ChatGPT subscription can replace consulting tasks that used to cost businesses 100s of thousands. And that’s just the beginning.
Developers, writers, analysts—many are losing sleep, wondering if their skills will be obsolete tomorrow. The fear is real.
What’s Left? The Power of You
Look at history:
• First, humans sold muscle. Then machines took over.
• Then, humans sold courage. Again, machines took over.
• Next, we sold intelligence. Now AI is taking that over too.
So, what’s left?
Your unique human perspective—your individual lens on the world.
(and it's not just fluff...stay with me)
Your unique perspective is made up of thousands of moments, feelings, sounds, memories, stories, hopes, and fears, among many other pieces that have shaped you. It's your perspective of the world. It's your unique "color", "sound", and "tone".
Replicating that would require 8 billion machines that think, feel, and perceive as we do. That’s almost impossible.
This is the creator economy—an economy of individuals each creating unique value in a way AI alone can’t replicate. It’s where the work you do, the service you offer, or the art you create isn’t just a product but an extension of you.
Some people learn best from certain people. Some are drawn to work with those who inspire them, motivate them, or resonate with who they are.
You’re not just selling a product or service—you’re selling who you are.
Here’s the formula for this new economy:
(Your Unique Perspective) x (Your Skills) x (AI Leverage) = The Next 1%
This is what I want to show you—how to amplify you.
Why Most People Get Stuck Using AI
When most people start with AI, it feels like magic. Need a blog idea? Done. Want an email draft? Easy. But as I kept using it, I realized something: while ChatGPT is powerful, it’s also limited. It’s a general-purpose tool, perfect for quick ideas but not for creating something deeply personal.
YOU ALWAYS SOUND AVERAGE.
With standard use, the best you get is:
(AI Leverage) x (Your Skills) = Average
So I started creating specialized AI models—versions tailored to my needs, my work, my style. I wasn’t just using AI. I was shaping it to amplify my own unique voice.
Then, I discovered Notion AI.
(No one talks about it)
What is Notion (and Why You Should Care)
Before we dive deeper, let’s talk about Notion. If you haven’t used it yet, you’re missing out.
Notion is a productivity powerhouse. It's more than just a note-taking tool. It's more than a simple note-taking tool. It helps you:
- Organize projects
- Keep things in order
- Manage your to-do list
- Store client details
- Create websites (with extra tools)
Think of it as the ultimate Swiss Army knife for anyone working online. If you’re building a business, a creative project, or a system for personal growth, Notion is a tool you can’t ignore.
And when you add Notion AI to this mix, it becomes something more than a chatbot. It’s a second brain for writing, brainstorming, organizing, and even strategizing. It’s the perfect assistant for anyone serious about the “AI Creators” economy.
What does it mean to “Use AI to Amplify YOU”?
If you follow me on X, you may have heard me say this before: “Use AI to amplify YOU, not dilute YOU. Don’t let it make you sound average.” But what does that actually mean?
Here’s a quick framework:
1. Request → AI Output → Share the Output
(Result: YOU ARE A BOT)
If you’re just taking AI’s output as-is, you’re basically a mouthpiece for the machine. There’s no “you” in it.
2. Request → AI Output → Filter/Challenge the Output → Share the Output
(Result: YOU ARE AVERAGE)
Here, you’re adding a bit of yourself by tweaking the response, but it’s still mostly generic.
3. Request + Context → AI Output → Filter/Challenge the Output → Share the Output
(Result: YOU ARE STILL AVERAGE)
Adding context helps, but without a personal framework or style, it still lacks uniqueness.
4. Request + YOUR Frameworks → AI Output → Filter/Challenge the Output → Share the Output
(Result: YOU FORMALIZE YOUR KNOWLEDGE)
Now we’re getting somewhere. With your frameworks, you’re shaping the output with your expertise.
5. Request + YOUR Frameworks + YOUR Style → AI Output → Filter/Challenge the Output → Share the Output
(Result: YOU START TO SOUND LIKE YOU)
Adding your style makes the content uniquely yours. People recognize your voice in it.
6. Request + YOUR Frameworks + YOUR Style + YOUR Philosophy/Perspective → AI Output → Filter/Challenge the Output → Share the Output
(Result: YOU AMPLIFY YOU)
This is the goal. With your philosophy and perspective, AI becomes an extension of your voice.
This is what “using AI to amplify YOU” really means—embedding your frameworks, style, and worldview into the process so that AI serves your message, not the other way around.
This is a simplified model, I know it is not that easy in practice. In this letter, I will show you a few examples.
Why Notion AI is Perfect for This
A big chunk of your “written self” probably lives in Notion (if you’re using it).
Your notes, raw ideas, drafts, thoughts—they’re all there. Your writing reveals who you are.
Notion captures it all.
Your saved quotes, book highlights, favorite tweets, random thoughts, goals, to-dos, and the half-baked ideas you’re still figuring out. Maybe you even journal here, recording lessons, fears, and plans. Notion isn’t just a tool; it’s a digital archive of you.
When you combine AI with all these layers, something powerful happens. Notion AI doesn’t just generate content—it amplifies your voice, your goals, your authentic story.
How Notion AI Helps Me
Notion AI can handle all the basics—think of it as ChatGPT plugged into your digital workspace.
1. Basic AI Tasks:
Notion AI can search your notes, maintain conversation history, and help you generate code, markdowns, or text responses, just like ChatGPT. You lose out on a few advanced features (like image generation), but for day-to-day tasks, it covers the essentials.
Notion AI must be enabled in your workspace to run the tests (costs around 10$/month).
You can also manage conversations and connect your favorite apps, like Slack and Google Drive—making it easy to work with your docs and collaborate with your team.
Notion AI can handle a range of tasks beyond just answering questions. It has built-in prompts optimized for brainstorming ideas, summarizing content, generating code, creating tables, and even building flowcharts! These features are incredibly powerful—enough that we could write an entire letter just to walk you through them!
The best part is that you can use these features from any page—you’re not limited to the chat interface. You can open any page, start writing, and access all these tools right where you need them.
2. Context-Driven Insights:
Here’s where Notion AI really shines—it doesn’t just give you generic answers; it taps into the context you’ve built over time.
• Identifying Patterns: Let’s say I want to structure my ideas. I can dump all my ideas, past posts, or drafts onto a page, then ask Notion AI to highlight recurring patterns, impactful phrases, or original ideas. Here, I’ll simply select some random notes I took while walking and listening to a podcast about LLMs, then ask Notion AI to extract the key insights and ideas. No need to copy-paste into ChatGPT—everything is already right there in Notion.
I just select my text, press “command+J,” and ask Notion AI whatever I need.
Here's my prompt: "Extract 5 impactful ideas to generate 5 impactful punchlines that I use to write a newsletter."
The power of this setup is that it eliminates all the copy-pasting you’d typically need with ChatGPT. You can get a similar experience using ChatGPT Canvas, but it’s much more convenient to work directly in your notes, where everything is already at your fingertips.
• Project-Based Conversations: Notion AI can answer questions directly from your databases. Ask it about the status of a project, what’s next on your to-do list, or your CRM, and it responds with specifics drawn from your actual data—not generic templates. It’s like talking to an assistant who knows every detail of your workflow. Here, I’ll be asking a few questions to a mock CRM created just for this demonstration.
My question: "Who is the lead with the highest estimated revenue?"
And here's the answer:
"Based on the search results, the lead with the highest estimated revenue is Larry Kim from the company Reach.io. The estimated value for this lead is $250,000.00.
Here are some additional details about Larry Kim:
Account Owner: Stephen Wu
Status: Closed
Priority: High
Email: larry@notion.so
Phone: 774-937-2794
Last Contact: 2024-03-11
Expected Close: 2024-05-23
All of this information comes from the same source"
Just make sure to phrase your question clearly—the technology isn’t perfect yet. But the potential is enormous.
• Knowledge-Based Brainstorming: Want to refine an offer or brainstorm new ideas? Notion AI remembers your business context—your pricing, services, core philosophy—so you don’t need to re-explain every time. It’s like brainstorming with someone who already knows your story.
In this example, I’m using a Python course script I created and brainstorming ways to make it sharper—all within Notion. No need to export or upload the document to another platform; I can just ask Notion AI directly on the page or reference any other relevant pages (examples below).
My request: "Generate four sections to enhance this course and make it more advanced"
I can simply click “Insert page” to add it directly to my notes.
Now, you might be thinking, “Why Notion? I could just export my content and use my favorite AI tool elsewhere.” Fair point. But here’s the advantage: in Notion, every piece of your content is already organized and searchable. Plus, Notion AI has something most other tools don’t—a native ability to read and interact with Notion’s unique objects, like databases, pages, and tags.
As you may have noticed, we’re now at a stage where you can truly formalize your knowledge.
Instead of treating AI as just a helpful assistant, you’re using it as an extension of your own frameworks and processes:
Request + YOUR Frameworks → AI Output → Filter/Challenge the Output → Share the Output
(Result: YOU FORMALIZE YOUR KNOWLEDGE)
In the next section, I’ll show you how to go even further—how to use AI in a way that amplifies you, not just supports you.
How to Set Up Notion AI to Amplify You
Alright, let’s dive into the advanced ways Notion AI can truly amplify your unique voice. Up to this point, we’ve explored how AI can pull from your databases, projects, and notes. But the real magic happens when you teach it to incorporate your style, routines, and unique perspective.
In a nutshell, here’s what you need:
1. Style Pages: These capture your writing style. Think of it as the “tone” or “voice” that defines how you sound, whether you’re writing blog posts, book pages, LinkedIn updates, or X threads.
2. Instruction Pages: These save your favorite prompts and workflows for common tasks. Instead of reinventing the wheel every time, you can call up specific instructions tailored to how you work best.
3. Perspective Pages: These capture your worldview, your philosophy, and your mission. They’re the “why” behind your content, giving everything you create a layer of personal authenticity.
Together, these pages create a unique toolkit for AI-powered you.
Let’s walk through how to set this up.
Building Your AI Toolkit: Instruction, Style, and Perspective Pages
These “pages” act like reusable scripts you can call on whenever needed.
Here’s an example setup:
I created an “Editor” page as the hub for all my writing. Within it, I added Style Pages, Instruction Pages, and Perspective Pages as sub-pages.
These pages integrate seamlessly across my workspace. I can create different styles for various needs: short-form, long-form, copywriting, or any other category.
For instance, I have four style pages:
• One optimized for long posts
• One for tweets
• One for LinkedIn posts
• One to generate powerful hooks
You can create as many as you need based on your workflow.
I also added an Instruction Page for generating draft blog posts and a Perspective Page to add my "unique" perpective about the subjects I write about (for example AI).
Here’s how to set up each one:
1. Instruction Page – For Structured Tasks
Start by creating an Instruction Page for a specific task, like “Writing Blog Posts.” On this page, include a prompt that guides the AI, along with a few examples of your past blog posts. AI responds well to “few-shot learning”—seeing examples alongside instructions helps it produce relevant results.
Example Prompt:
"Generate an article with your style. Ensure that every sentence in your content provides value. Eliminate any fluff and maintain focus on the overall goal of the content piece. Make the content conversational, empathetic, and occasionally humorous. Use natural dialogue to add personality. Write for individuals and entrepreneurs interested in actionable tips to move their business up using AI. Start with and enrich my personal story."
That’s all you need to get started. Of course, the possibilities are endless—you can get creative, add examples, and even design your own custom templates to fit your workflow. Start simple, and as you learn, gradually make it more sophisticated.
2. Style Page – To Capture Your Voice
Next, create a Style Page to show the AI how you write. Include several examples of your favorite writing samples that best capture your tone. You can create different Style Pages for different platforms (blog posts, LinkedIn, Twitter). While you can imitate other styles, I recommend focusing on your own voice—after all, the goal is to amplify you, not copy someone else.
Example Prompt:
"You're a writing assistant. Users give you text, and you transform it into sharp, bright, simple, concise, and attention-grabbing outputs with your writing style. You write short, meaningful, and impactful sentences. Your text is only informative and is not intended to sell anything or say nice things about the subject of the text. The primary purpose of your text is to provide valuable information.
Here are examples of your writing style:
[past examples of your writing style]
"
3. Perspective Page – To Embed Your Philosophy
Finally, create a Perspective Page to capture your unique perspective. This page should include a brief description of your mission, vision, or core beliefs. It’s the page that grounds your work in your worldview, making your content distinctly yours.
Example Prompt:
“You’re a writing assistant with a unique perspective.
Your job is to transform every text through the lens of your own viewpoint.
Here are some examples to showcase your distinct approach:
[Write your key ideas]
”
Using Your AI Toolkit
Once your Instruction, Style, and Perspective Pages are ready, you can call them up in any Notion page. Here’s how it works:
1. Go to your editor or any working page.
2. Select text or start a prompt, then use “Command+J” to activate Notion AI.
3. Mention your Instruction, Style, and/or Perspective Pages in the prompt.
Examples:
• Blog Post Draft (Instruction + Style + Perspective + Context): “Turn this into a blog article using instruction of [@Blog Draft Instruction Page] and using the writing style and instructions of [@Style Page]. Write the article from the angle and perspective of [@Perspective Page]”.
Here's the result:
The result includes instructions, style, and perspective seamlessly. It wasn’t perfect at first—the “perspective” was overly pronounced, and the AI overused metaphors from my Perspective Page. But after an hour of tweaking and refining the prompts, the results were just perfect!
• Blog Post with Perspective (Instruction + Style + Perspective): Now, I might try creating a blog post from scratch—using only my Perspective Page and the same prompt, but without selecting any context or text: “Write a blog article using instruction of [@Blog Draft Instruction Page] and using the writing style and instructions of [@Style Page]. Write the article from the angle and perspective of [@Perspective Page]”.
Not bad at all for so little effort and context. I can refine and expand my Perspective Page to make the results even better.
• Comment for LinkedIn (Perspective): “Write a thoughtful and short (3 sentences max) comment on this LinkedIn post, using my style from [@Style Page] and perspective from [@Perspective Page].”
I copied a random LinkedIn post from my feed into my editor, pressed “Command+J,” added the prompt, and here’s what I got:
Great start. It still sounds a little bot-like, but I can already spot patterns from my writing style and elements from my Perspective Page—like mentions of “unique voice,” for example.
Notion AI offers a powerful way to blend AI capabilities with pieces of you. And it’s not limited to just Instructions, Styles, and Perspective Pages—you can expand it further with other tailored pages to suit your needs.
Now, let me be clear: this simple test isn’t everything you need to generate content with compelling authenticity. It’s just a starting point to illustrate the core idea: your Notion is full of scattered pieces of you.
The goal is to structure those pieces and use them to make AI sound like you—to amplify your voice and what you believe in.
That’s the main takeaway, and this is just the beginning.
This setup isn’t limited to one instruction, style, or perspective. You can create multiple Instruction Pages for different tasks (e.g., “Generate Viral Titles” or “Break Down Complex Topics”), different Style Pages for each platform, and Perspective Pages for various subjects.
Endless Possibilities
Imagine the flexibility here. You can mix and match Instruction, Style, and Perspective Pages to create precisely tailored content for any purpose:
• Instruction Pages: Blog posts, social media threads, title generation, in-depth analysis, short form, long form, etc.
• Style Pages: Styles for blog posts, LinkedIn, Twitter, newsletters, and more.
• Perspective Pages: Perspectives on AI, personal growth, fitness, creativity, and more.
You’re only limited by your creativity. Think of AI as the instrument and your framework as the music. You set the tone, the tempo, the style. You create the sound that defines you.
In short, AI is the tool; you’re the voice.
Wrap Up
That’s it for today. Here’s the takeaway.
Notion AI can do more than basic tasks—it can amplify you. By setting up Instruction Pages, Style Pages, and Perspective Pages, you turn it into an extension of your unique voice, values, and vision. This helps you create content that reflects your personality and what you stand for, rather than sounding like a “bot.”
